Service Description

Offers non-medical home support to seniors; services including light housekeeping, grocery shopping, transportation (details below), and friendly visiting. Housekeeping fees are on a sliding scale based on income. Other services are free of charge, with donations accepted. Program is funded by the Province of BC and managed by United Way. Office hours are 9:30 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.

Provides transportation to older adults age 55 and up with a disability or health condition for medical appointments and grocery shopping. Also provides accompanied transportation for grocery shopping. Individuals must be a resident of Mount Pleasant neighbourhood in Vancouver (from Great Northern Way to East 41st, and Granville Street to Victoria Drive). Services may include support for clients with dementia. Can accommodate walkers, wheelchairs, or scooters and service animals. Serves Mount Pleasant area; pick-up and drop-off location is dependent on volunteer availability. Service hours are from 8 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday; after hours and weekends may be considered. Transportation is pre-arranged (via HandyDART, taxi, or public transportation) with volunteer accompaniment. Advance booking is required to recruit a volunteer and also for cancellations. Pre-registration is required through the agency. Free service, though welcomes donations made to the agency. A waitlist is maintained.
